Kidney is a paired organ that plays important role in the process of excretion. Their functions are to maintain the body fluid level and other chemicals which are present in the blood. It also helps to release the hormones and to remove the toxins from our body. Any disease that causes serious damage to the kidney results in chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Causes: Hypertension and diabetes are the two important disease conditions that act as the main cause for the chronic kidney damage. People with diabetes have high sugar content in the blood, which might in turn affect the other organs such as kidney, blood vessels and heart. Sometimes serious conditions leading to strokes and heart has been considered to cause the CKD. There are other conditions where there repeated urinary tract infections are found.
Symptoms: High loss of energy, swelling of ankles and feet, frequent urination, poor appetite, dry skin and puffiness around the eyes are some of the common symptoms.
Risk factors: People having high blood pressure and diabetes are at the increased risk of CKD. Also older people might come across these types of disease conditions.
