Mammogram helps to detect any lumps found on the breast. They even show small specks of calcium which are the precancerous cells. Also any abnormal cells that are present can also be found. But there are certain disadvantages in taking mammograms such as ‘false negative and ‘false positive’ results. In the case of ‘false negative’, it might not detect certain cancers and shows a negative result; on the other hand, in the case ‘false positive’, it might detect a non-cancerous area as cancer. Also, when the cancer had spread to other areas, it might not be able to detect. Mammogram is not very harmful because it uses only less radiations.
