Curvature in the vertebrae of spinal cord leads to a musculoskeletal disorder called Scoliosis. Occurrence: It does not have an age limit, but it occurs most commonly in adults and children. When considering the occurrence gender wise it occurs most likely in females than in males and idiopathic scoliosis is the type that occurs frequently.
Causes: The causes of scoliosis are not very clear. It might be caused due to some infections or injuries. Diagnosis: There are many steps involved in the diagnosis which includes, for the determination of patient’s medical history, physical examination, evaluation through x-ray; measurement of the curve and depending on all these information, the doctor will frame for a proper treatment. The shape of the vertebrae can either be C-shaped or S-shaped.
Treatment: When there is a mild curvature, treatment is not necessary in most cases. Therefore the treatment depends on the degree of the curvature. For some people, the doctor prefers wearing a brace which would prevent the worsening of the curvature. If the situation becomes even worse, he will suggest performing a surgery. Other treatments include electrical manipulation, exercise, chiropractic manipulation, and improvement in the nutrition.
