Survivors of Breast Cancer

If there are any symptoms of breast cancer or if the screening test shows the presence of cancer, the doctor would suggest taking a mammogram and also other imaging techniques. Initially, in this step, clinical breast exam is done, where the breast is checked for any presence of lumps or any other symptoms. If it is benign tumor, it will be movable, round, soft and smooth, which distinguishes it from that of malignant lumps. Then diagnostic mammogram is done which is an x-ray of breasts. Sometimes ultrasound and MRI are suggested along with mammogram. Once the presence of cancer cells is found, then the infected tissues are given for biopsy. Those areas which are suggested have the presence of cancer is viewed through mammogram and them they are removed and given for clinical analysis. The tissues can be removed in 3 different methods. It can be a surgical biopsy, where either the sample of tissues or the entire lump are removed and checked by a pathologist. Fine-needle biopsy is done with the help of a fine needle which helps to remove some fluids from the infected area. Sometimes, core biopsy s done where thick needles are used that removes the tissue of breast tissues.
